Foggy Petronas deal to end

1 of 1

This year will be your last chance to see the distinctive Foggy Petronas FP1 racing in World Superbikes as Petronas has decided not to renew its sponsorship at the end of the season.

Following on from Proton’s departure from the bike world fellow Malaysian company Petronas has now decided that it has had enough and has declined to spend any more money on the under-performing bike.

Foggy Petronas started racing in 2003 with a brand new bike developed from Formula 1 technology, the FP1. But despite two podium finishes and two pole positions they could never maintain a consistently good performance.

Petronas has now signed a deal with Rotax, who make engines for Aprilia and BMW, to develop their high performance engines.

Carl Fogarty said he is now pursuing other options to keep the team on the grid next season. “2006 will be Foggy PETRONAS Racing team’s final season in the World Superbike Championship and we would like to end it on a successful note. I am looking forward to a fruitful season. My Team Foggy Racing outfit will now continue to explore opportunities with other manufacturers and sponsors for 2007 and beyond, as I believe we have built a team capable of achieving consistent success on the world stage.”
