Bayliss on Brands pole

Troy Bayliss posted a new best lap at Brands Hatch to take pole position as as the last man out onto the circuit for Superpole.

Karl Muggeridge had posted a time of 1;25.901 early in Superpole which proved hard to beat, with James Toseland, Troy Corser and Andrew Pitt all coming close. But it was Noriyuki Haga who improved as the penultimate rider, only to lose out to Bayliss within the space of two minutes. Chris Walker was heading the times in the early stages and finished eighth, while Tommy Hill qualified tenth despite a major slide exiting Paddock Hill bend.

Free practice: Troy Corser waited until the final moments of the last free practice session to post a fastest lap of 1:25.730 to go fastest in the session and set the fastest World Superbike lap around the Kent circuit.

For much of the session Noriyuki Haga had led with 1:26.052, with Troy Bayliss trailing by just 0.010. The top three were followed by James Toseland, Chris Walker, Ruben Xaus and Karl Muggeridge. Broc Parkes is on pole for the World Supersport race, with a 1:28.447 on the Yamaha R6. He just outqualified Sebastien Charpentier, with Kevin Curtain missing out after holding the top spot for much of the session. Behind Curtain in third will be Kenan Sofuoglu, Stefan Chambon, and top British riders, Cal Crutchlow and Leon Camier in sixth and seventh..
