NW200: Irwin: 'The crowd were unreal!'

1 of 1

Glenn Irwin was lost for words after taking a stunning double Superbike victory at today’s Vauxhall North West 200.

The Be Wiser Ducati rider led both of the day’s seven lap superbike races from start to finish to decimate his opposition, crossing the line almost ten seconds ahead of second-placed Michael Dunlop.

Irwin is now unbeaten in three Superbike races at the North West after his titanic win against Alastair Seeley in last year’s feature race.

The Ulsterman crossed the line to rapturous cheers from his home crowd, something he says spurred him on throughout the races.

“What can I say, it’s just been an awesome day!” he said. “I managed to get the holeshot in both races and just got my head down which allowed me to break the tow of the other riders. With clear road, you can ride almost the perfect lap and the support I was getting from the crowd was unreal – I didn’t need a pit board as the crowd were giving me all the signals I needed! The sun shone all day and the crowd was huge so with it being a hard week for the team after Shakey’s accident, hopefully today’s wins have lifted everyone’s spirits.”
