TT: Mugen to expand to three bikes for 2018 TT Zero

Mugen will expand its effort to three machines for the 2018 Isle of Man TT Zero.

Confirming its motorsports activities on Friday, the Japanese marque announced it will return to the Isle of Man TT for a seventh year as they look to add to their tally of four TT victories.

Mugen’s million pound Shinden will bear the name ‘Shinden Nana’ for 2018, with the squad fielding three riders for the one-lap race for the first time in history.

The three-rider line-up furthers rumours that John McGuinness will make his return to the TT on the electric machine after being forced to miss the 2017 races following the nasty crash at the North West 200 that saw him badly break his leg.

23-time TT winner McGuinness has yet to confirm whether he’ll race anything else in 2018, but it seems he will not race with his former Honda Racing squad after they confirmed Ian Hutchinson and Lee Johnston as an all-new line-up for the season ahead.

Bruce Anstey, who has won the TT Zero for Mugen for the last two years, is sure to feature in the squad’s trio of riders with Hutchinson and Johnston also in the mix to join the pre-race favourites.

Mugen will announce their line-up at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show, which takes places between 23rd-25th March.
