TT: Brookes takes on McGuinness' Supersport steed

Josh Brookes will stand in for John McGuinness on the Jackson Racing CBR600RR in the Supersport class at this year’s Isle of Man TT.

Competing for Norton in the Superbike and Senior races, Brookes has long been seeking other machines to ride at this year’s event to ensure he’s not got what could have been a week-long gap between his two races.

Having announced he’d ride the Ryan Farquhar-prepared KMR Kawasaki in the Lightweight category last week, it’s shortly set to be confirmed that Brookes will also pilot the Jackson Racing CBR600RR in place of McGuinness, who was ruled out of this year’s TT after breaking his leg and several vertebrae in a crash at the Norht West 200 earlier this month.

Brookes and the Jackson team are testing alongside Honda Racing at Castle Combe today.

“As a team, we were all gutted that John had his accident at the North West 200 and we’re all hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery,” said team boss Alan Jackson. “Having him ride for us has been a privilege and out of respect for John, it was only after speaking to both him and Becky that we decided to go ahead and field a replacement. But to have someone of the calibre of Josh now riding for us is another terrific coup for the team.”

“We’re delighted to have him on board and he’ll be getting our full support during TT2017. The TT is what our year is geared towards and we’ve invested a lot of time, effort and money into this year’s campaign both on and off the track. We’ve got a good infrastructure and good machinery and the whole team is looking forward to working with Josh.”
