NW200: Seeley wins dramatic Supersport battle

1 of 1

Alastair Seeley notched up his 19th North West 200 victory in a dramatic second Supersport race at this year’s Vauxhall International North West 200.

With a damp circuit from overnight rainfall and spots of rain in the air, the race start was delayed but with the rain not amounting to much the circuit soon dried up.

However, with damp patches in various locations, riders had no choice but to take it easy in the early laps.

Seeley looked to be in control from the start, despite an early challenge from McAMS Yamaha’s Ian Hutchinson with race one winner Martin Jessopp also in the mix.

William Dunlop came from nowhere to join the leading group at the half way point and began to put up a strong challenge for the lead, but with rain threatening towards the end of lap four everything was up in the air.

Gesticulating as they crossed the line, Hutchinson lost significant ground and fell back to seventh as Seeley and Dunlop fought for the lead, the rain scare allowing Michael Dunlop and Adam McLean to close in on the podium battle.

With the rain not amounting to anything, Seeley upped the ante onto the final lap leaving the Dunlop brothers to scrap it out for second. Michael looked to have it at the mid-way point around the final 8.9 miles, but William blasted past on the run down to Metropole to make his podium return.
