NW200: Front row start for Irwin on Superbike debut

Glenn Irwin took a huge step towards making a mark on his Superbike debut at the 2017 Vauxhall International North West 200 by securing a front row start for tomorrow’s two races.

The MCE BSB star will line-up third on the grid tomorrow behind Michael Rutter and Alastair Seeley after the week’s two qualifying sessions, but the 27-year-old is keen to make improvements with the Be Wiser Ducati Panigale R before racing gets underway.

Unhappy with how the machine is handling around the 8.9-mile Triangle course, Irwin and the Penrith-based team are working hard to put themselves in the best position possible for tomorrow’s two races.

“I’m happy with the position but I want the bike to be more comfortable,” Irwin said. “We tried a new tyre on Thursday that made the handling too lazy. I’ve only done 11 laps so far so I need a little bit of luck on Saturday and I won’t be far away.”
