Roads: Guy Martin to race Cookstown 100

Guy Martin will race at next month’s Cookstown 100 as he makes his return to competitive road racing with Honda Racing.

Martin will race a Superstock-spec CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 in both the Open and Cookstown 100 feature races at the event which takes place on 28th and 29th April as he looks to notch up events on his race licence to appear at the TT in June.

No stranger to the Orritor circuit, Martin took victory for the Tyco BMW team in both superbike races in 2015 and will no doubt be hoping to return the sharp end as he makes his return with Honda.

It is expected he will compete in at least one other Irish national road race before appearing for the first time alongside Honda team-mate John McGuinness at the North West 200 in May. The Louth-based squad’s dream line up then move on to the Isle of Man TT at the end of May where Martin is hoping to clinch his first victory on the iconic mountain course.

Having tested the new Fireblade for the first time in Spain two weeks’ ago, Martin will complete two further tests with the Honda team at Castle Combe next month.
