Roads: Rutter takes Frohburg hat-trick

Michael Rutter returned to winning ways as he made a return to the Frohburg Road Races in Germany at the weekend.

The short circuit and road racing veteran took three Superbike wins from four starts around the 2.93-mile, fast public course riding for the Penz13.com BMW squad alongside Gary Johnson and Danny Webb.

Qualifying second, Rutter went on to battle against Belgian’s Vincent Lonbois and Sebastian Le Grelle as well as local star and NW200 racer Didier Grams for victory with all races culmating in a last lap battle.

It was only Rutter’s second appearance at the German race, but he would go on to win both championship races plus a non-championship Superbike race across the weekend.

“It’s been another really enjoyable visit to Frohburg and to come away with a hat-trick is very pleasing,” said Rutter. “It was only my second visit to the circuit but it’s a great little course and everyone made me feel very welcome. The weather was fine throughout the weekend but all of the races were tough as Vincent, Sebastien and Didier are what you’d call circuit specialists around here.”

“There was little to choose between us and we had some great battles throughout the two days, going into the final laps with it all to play for. I managed to get the better of them three times out of the four and whilst it would obviously have been nice to have come away with all four wins, I’ve got to be happy with how the meeting went to a big thanks to everyone at the Penz13.Com team and, of course, all my personal sponsors.”
