TT 2016: Dramatic pictures show Cowton near miss

Isle of Man TT racer James Cowton had a lucky escape from a horrific crash at the 11th milestone in Monday’s Superstock race.

Cowton fell from his BMW S1000RR in the late stages of the race and footage from Horst Saiger’s on-board cameras show how he was able to walk away from the crash.

Losing the front end, Cowton hit the Recticel barriers at force before bouncing off and back into the track caught up in a sponsorship banner (pictured) – right into the trajectory of Saiger who was able to brake in time to avoid the stricken Cowton.

What could have been a serious incident was prevented by both the Recticel barrier absorbing the force and the quick-thinking reaction from Saiger, leaving Cowton to walk away with only bruising

Cowton has withdrawn from today’s Supersport race but is planning to compete in this evening’s Lightweight TT.
