The organisers of the Macau Grand Prix have released a medical update on VRS Honda rider Russ Mountford, who was injured during yesterday’s first qualifying for the race after crashing out on the twisty hill section of the Guia course.

Complaining of chest, back, pelvis and ankle pain following the crash, Mountford was admitted to the orthopaedic department of the Conde S Januario General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with breaks to his tibia, pelvis, sternum, L5 vertebra and finger.

He was operated on last night to set his fractures, and is hoping to be repatriated to the UK as soon as next Monday.

There has been no further update yet on Tom McHale, who crashed heavily at the fast Mandarin bend during this morning’s second qualifying session, although he was reported at the time to be suffering from head and limb injuries but had regained consciousness at the scene.
