Keith Amor retires from road racing

Scotsman Keith Amor has taken the decision to retire from road racing at the age of 39.

The TT Legends Honda rider made the decision to retire after serious shoulder injuries he sustained at the Isle of Man TT in 2011 failed to heal. “I had three freaky crashes last year and they left me in a lot of pain,” said Amor.

Amor crashed at Quarterbridge during practice for the 2011 TT and then during the controversial second Supersport TT, which was started in wet conditions then stopped. A crash during the Ulster Grand Prix in August 2011 further aggravated the injury.

“I had major surgery to both shoulders in November with the right having to be totally reconstructed and the ligaments tightened in the left as well.” Keith explained.

“I had an MRI scan today to check if the ops have been successful but the doc said it hadn’t healed and I would need further surgery. So that’s me done with racing.”

During his career, the Falkirk rider scored five TT podiums, including second place during the opening supersport race at the 2011 TT.
