Isle of Man TT: Alternative-fuelled lap record broken

Rob Barber has just set the outright lap record for an alternative-fuelled bike round the Isle of Man with an average speed of 84.819mph. On a battery-powered GSX-R750-framed bike he recorded a top speed down the Sulby Straight of 103mph.

Rob is an experienced TT rider, finishing 27th in the Supersport race a few hours earlier on a Cross Lane GSX-R600.

After jumping off the bike Rob exclusively told MCN: “It was really weird. I didn¹t think I would have to brake for some places, but I did.

“It went light occasionally, and I got air over Ballaugh. But I suppose the strangest part is there is no sound so you can here the crowd clapping as you go around.”

It’s a busy day for Rob as he is out for a third time in the Superstock race, which starts at 18:30.

More news as we get it.
