Jorge Lorenzo opened proceedings for the final round of the 2016 MotoGP season with dominant pace in first practice at Valencia.

Preparing for his last race as a Yamaha rider, Lorenzo was 0.4 seconds clear of team-mate Valentino Rossi to top the session with a time under his own race lap record.

Marc Marquez held second until the session’s dying moments when Valentino Rossi moved ahead in what was a mixed session for the Italian, who pulled off track during his first out lap with a mechanical problem.
