Published: 08 September 2016
MotoGP have officially retired Marco Simoncelli’s race number in a ceremony at the Misano circuit named in his honour, with his father Paolo and MotoGP boss Carmelo Ezpeleta taking to the stage together to make the announcement.
The number will now be withdrawn from use – but will be granted to a rider who asks the permission of the Simoncelli family in the future.
