Bulega takes maiden pole in Jerez

Nicolo Bulega has taken his debut Moto3 pole position in Jerez, winning at the track where he took victory in 2015 en route to the junior world title. He controlled the entire session at the southern Spanish track, eventually finishing 0.2 clear of second place Brad Binder.

Jorge Navarro was third, first of the Hondas, another 0.2 behind the South African. Francesco Bagnaia was a surprise leader of the second row on the Mahindra, ahead of faller Niccolo Antonelli and Enea Bastianini.

Joan Mir was at the head of row three in seventh, ahead of Juanfran Guevara and the second Team Sky VR46 KTM of Romano Fenati. Jakub Kornfeil rounded out the top ten on row four.

Scotsman John McPhee was a disappointing 25th, as he continues to struggle on the Saxoprint Peugeot-branded Mahindra.
