Moto3: Strong weekend in wet and dry for McPhee

John McPhee has left his Saxoprint Peugeot team’s home race in Sachsenring delighted with his progress over the weekend, with a new gearbox for the French-branded Mahindra making all the difference for him.

Able to lead Sunday’s race in the opening stages, the Scottish racer says that even if he didn’t finish as high as he’d have liked to, the weekend was still a success for them.

“Obviously I’m happy. It’s really nice to have a strong weekend in the whole and even more to round up it with the best result of the season thus far. It’s such a good feeling because all weekend rather in dry or wet conditions I felt so happy with the bike and the race it was the first time on a full wet track today.

“After a strong start I wanted to fight more for the podium but from the middle of the race I got a massive problem with the rear grip. So this took a while to understand the situation but I tried to change the balance of the bike with my riding which I managed well finally. During the last laps I managed to come back and make some positions. So I think for now we can be happy. We need to go into the summer break, train hard and focus for the second half of the season.”

However, despite the successful weekend, McPhee is still uncertain where his future lies, admitting that there’s uncertainty about where he’ll be in 2017

“Everything is falling into shape. Next year is completely open, and I don’t even know if I’m going to be in the paddock or not, but I’m trying not to think about it and to focus on riding the bike and doing the best job I can. Hopefully the rest of it just falls into place for me!”
