Moto2: Luthi holds off Nakagami and Lowes

1 of 1

Thomas Luthi has held off Takaaki Nakagami and Sam Lowes to lead the times at the end of the opening day of moto2 action at the Dutch TT, leading the pair by a quarter of a second at the end of the day.

Luthi, fresh from testing KTM’s new RC16 MotoGP machine earlier this week, was the only rider able to drop into the 1:37s. Nakagami headed FP1 this morning, but a crash at the end of FP2 halted his chances of moving any further up the leaderboard.

Lowes was a further 0.091 back on the Japanese rider, content with his days pace and admitting that he felt like he still has something left in his pocket.

Alex Marquez was fourth, ahead of Franco Morbidelli, Johann Zarco, Lorenzo Baldassarri and Sandro Cortese with title contenders Alex Rins and Jonas Folger rounding out the top ten. Reigning Moto3 world champion Danny Kent was 14th.
