MotoGP: Marquez jumps to the top in FP3

Marc Marquez clocked the quickest lap of the weekend to top the final timed practice session at the British Grand Prix.

Putting in the first 2’00 time of the weekend, Marquez shot to the top of the time sheets in the closing moments of the session to pip the Suzuki of Maverick Vinales to the top spot.

Andrea Iannone, who crashed at Farm curve – a fast left hander which has taken a number of riders victim so far this weekend – earlier in the session, was third fastest ahead of winner last time out Cal Crutchlow, who continues to impress on the LCR Honda.

Jorge Lorenzo was fifth ahead of second-fastest Brit Scott Redding, who rounded out the top six for Pramac Ducati in front of factory counterpart Andrea Dovizioso.

Dani Pedrosa saved himself from having to compete in the opening Q1 qualifying session with a late lap that saw him move eighth ahead of Aleix Espargaro, but nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi cut it fine to end the session in tenth.

Alex Lowes continued to impress while making his MotoGP debut for Tech 3 Yamaha. The PATA Yamaha WSB rider has knocked three seconds off the time he set in yesterday’s first session and now sits just two seconds off Marquez’s pace and is less than a second behind team-mate Pol Espargaro.
