Moto2: Lowes looking to reignite title challenge with Silverstone win

Sam Lowes is confident of reigniting his Moto2 title challenge with victory in tomorrow’s British Grand Prix after a dominant weekend so far for the Brit.

Despite inclement weather interrupting all Moto2 practice, Lowes is yet to be topped in any session so far this weekend and will start his home race from pole position after a commanding display this afternoon.

While it had seemed his title challenge might have dropped off after a few bad races, Lowes is keen to get back in the mix and, after a strong podium last time out, has his eyes firmly set on the top step for tomorrow’s race.

“I need to win tomorrow and I’ve said that from the start,” said Lowes with that well-known, cheeky grin. “Worst case scenario I need to take points off Zarco but I feel I’m riding good; we’ve had a couple of bad races but apart from that I’ve been quite strong.

“In the dry I feel I’ve got a good advantage, I feel quite relaxed and can put in decent laps on old tyres and new tyres and despite the conditions this weekend everyone’s had the same and I’ve been the quickest guy so far.

“I made a good step today in the rain but it’s obviously a bit more of a lottery. We made a good step in the wet in Brno and lasted the full race with no mistakes and quite a good pace so that increases my confidence into this race.

“I’m hoping for a dry race, I think I can do a good job but there’s no doubt Zarco will be there, he’s not been that fast but he will be there, Marquez looks quite good so it should be a good race.”
