MotoGP: Marquez smashes title opposition with Aragon win

1 of 1

Marc Marquez has smashed his championship rivals by taking a dominant win at his home race at Motorland Aragon, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi.

Marquez was an early frontrunner, but a mistake let Rossi through – for a short time. The title leader was able to pull back through the pack, breaking clear at the front and never looking back.

That left Rossi to defend second, but a late charge from Lorenzo left him right on his tail, first making a move through and then forcing an error to send Rossi wide as he attempted an overtake on the penultimate lap.

Early leader Maverick Viñales rode to a strong fourth, only dropping out of the podium battle after a mistake at turn one, while Cal Crutchlow had another impressive race to fifth.

Eugene Laverty was 14th while Scott Redding finished out of the points after an incident with teammate Danilo Petrucci that the Italian was penalised for with a ride-through penalty.
