MotoGP: Slick tyre gamble pays off for Miller

1 of 1

Jack Miller has taken a stunning pole position for tomorrow’s Argentinian Grand Prix, taking a huge gamble on slick tyres on a damp but drying track and surviving a series of big moments to finish ahead of a topsy-turvy grid. Dani Pedrosa and Johann Zarco will line up alongside him for tomorrow’s race.

“I was thinking going into it that fortune favours the brave! It was a big gamble, but I understood that it could work. I remember Pawi winning in Moto3, and knew that this track is quite grippy in the wet, especially as there was a good dry line. The lap before was probably quicker, but I just touched the gas minutely on the wet and it got out of shape. After that I was just delighted to bring it home safe for the new team!”

Aleix Espargaró and Marc Marquez were early leaders of the session after the Aprilia rider made it through from Q1, but despite being the first one to try slicks, Marquez was forced to set his fastest times on wets, leaving Miller the sole rider to bet on dry tyres.

Tito Rabat was a stunning fourth place, ahead of Alex Rins and Marquez, while Espargaró, Andrea Dovizioso and Viñales rounded out the third row. Brit Cal Crutchlow will start in tenth.
