MotoGP: 'Marquez style until the end'

1 of 1

Marc Marquez has laughed off the moment that almost saw the 2017 MotoGP championship fight taken out of his hands during this afternoon’s dramatic Valencia finale.

Having just passed Johann Zarco for the lead, Marquez went into turn one hard expecting a challenge from the Frenchman, but tucked the front at high speed. Miraculously managing to save it, he ran off the track and re-joined in fifth.

Had he crashed, it would have been up to Andrea Dovizioso to win the race if he was to win the world title.

After the moment, Marquez played it safe to bring it home, but with both Ducatis crashing in the final stages, he was rewarded with a third place behind race winner Dani Pedrosa and second-placed Johann Zarco.

Speaking about winning his sixth world title, Marquez said: “An amazing, amazing feeling. I tried to be calm all race, but I felt really good so I tried to push. I lost concentration on the braking point – it was crazy! Marquez style until the end! A huge thank you to all of my team because they did an amazing job right until the end.”
