Moto2: Marquez pips Morbidelli to pole

Alex Marquez pipped team-mate Franco Morbidelli to pole position for the final race of the 2017 Moto2 season after an intense qualifying session in Valencia.

The two Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS machines were separated by just 0.065 seconds at the end of the 45-minute session with Italian Pasini joining them on the front row.

KTM’s Miguel Oliveira heads up row two ahead of team-mate Brad Brinder with the Suter of Dominique Aegerter sixth.

Takaaki Nakagami will start his final MotoGP race from seventh ahead of Francesco Bagnaia and Xavi Vierge, with Marcel Schrotter rounding out the top ten.

Britain’s Tarran Mackenzie rounds out the pack in 32nd in his final Grand Prix outing before heading back to the British Superbike Championship, while wildcard Jake Dixon sat out of qualifying after a heavy crash in FP3. While the BSB star didn’t break anything, he was battered and bruised and was advised not to qualify by circuit medical staff with a further review expected to take place before morning warm-up tomorrow.
