MotoGP: Crutchlow ‘satisfied’ with Qatari test

Cal Crutchlow says he’s satisfied with the progress that he and the LCR Honda squad made during three days of testing in Qatar, after the double race winner came away eighth overall.

Working mainly on finding key electronic settings after losing much of last year’s data thanks to a new engine configuration introduced to help reduce the aggressiveness of the engine’s power delivery, he says a positive final day made the test worthwhile.

“Today was a positive day, we are happy with what we managed to get through. We worked well as a team again and completed the plan that we had set ourselves. We managed to do a 16-lap long run, but unfortunately during that I made a small mistake with the buttons on the handlebar. But we were quite happy overall.”

However, while the test finished reasonably well for Crutchlow, ending it less than half a second off the top spot, he believes that he could have done better had it not been for a broken footpeg bringing him down on his flying lap

“The final lap time was not very good and I pushed for a lap time on the final lap, but I crashed as we had a malfunction with a part that we think was damaged the day before. But this is racing and now we look forward to the first round which is very close – and hopefully all the fans do too.”
