Moto2: Nakagami tops first sessions of Qatar test

Takaaki Nakagami has topped the delayed opening sessions of the final Moto2 preseason test of the year at Qatar, finishing ahead of the Marc VDS duo of Frankie Morbidelli and Alex Marquez after rain hit yesterday’s first day of the test.

The Moto2 pilots didn’t get the chance to take to the Losail track yesterday after heavy rain hit just as they were due to set out, resulting in an early bath under the floodlights as the track failed to dry out.

But Nakagami made up for it on day two, setting a 2:00.187 lap to finish fractionally ahead of Morbidelli, with Marquez a further two tenths of a second back on his two rivals, continuing a good run of form from last week’s first test at Jerez.

It was a good night for Danny Kent, too, as the former Moto3 world champion coming home ninth in the final session on the brand new Suter-chassis Kiefer Racing machine.

The test resumes for the final day tomorrow, with the Moto2 and Moto3 machines sharing three hours of track time each from 1500-2230 local time (1200-1930 UK time).
