Moto2: Morbidelli tops shortened day, Nakagami stays in overall control

Franco Morbidelli has topped the final day of winter testing on the Marc VDS Kalex machine, finishing ahead of Miguel Olivera and Thomas Luthi but unable to go faster than Takaaki Nakagami’s time from yesterday as high winds struck the Losail circuit.

With a severe weather warning in place for the evening’s action, it was initially doubtful whether the field would even take to the track, but with the rain arriving later in the night they managed two sessions, with Morbidelli, second fastest overall, managing 25 laps before an early bath.

He finished the day half a second off Nakagami’s time from yesterday, unable to come close to his own time that left him second fastest overall and only 0.053 off the Japanese rider, who himself finished the final day a distant 22nd.

Danny Kent had another strong day despite the weather disruption, finishing in 12th on the day and ninth overall, delighted with the progress he’s made this week on the Kiefer Racing Suter machine and set for next weekend’s opening race.
