MotoGP: No ITV highlights for 2017 season

British MotoGP fans hoping to watch race highlights on ITV4 this year are set to be disappointed with it soon to be announced the channel won’t continue with the coverage this season.

ITV4 have aired a one hour MotoGP highlights package on the Monday evening after a race since BT Sport took over the rights to show MotoGP live on TV in the UK in 2014, but MCN understands that this will not be the case for the upcoming season.

While the reasons for this discontinuation are unclear, sources close to ITV told MCN that MotoGP would no longer feature in their expanding motorsport portfolio, despite recently renewing a deal for a similar package to show highlights of MCE British Superbike Championship races.

The news comes just after BT Sport announced upcoming price hikes of up to £3.50 per month for some customers. BT TV customers will now be required to pay £3.50 per month instead of the service being free, with prices also rising for those watching through Sky both with and without BT broadband subscriptions.

At this stage it is unknown whether a new free-to-air partner will be announced for MotoGP or whether the change will impact ITV’s deal to show highlights of the Superbike World Championship, which is also owned by MotoGP commercial rights holders Dorna.
