Moto3: McPhee geared up for busy weekend at home

British Talent Team Honda rider John McPhee says he’s geared up for a busy weekend in front of his home crowd at the British Grand Prix, as the 2017 Moto3 title contender looks to close the gap down to the championship leaders.

The Scottish racer is coming off the back of a disappointing result last time out in Austria, when he was knocked out of contention by Red Bull KTM racer Bo Bendsneyder while dicing for a podium finish – but says that he’s confident that the home support boost will help out come Sunday.

“I’m really excited to race in front of the home crowd this weekend at Silverstone. I made a good step in Austria, and then another small step in the Monday test, so I’m excited to get back on track. The weather will be a big factor this weekend but either way I’m feeling strong and ready to race.

“There is definitely still a buzz to going to Silverstone. There was last year, coming off the back of my first ever win, even though I knew realistically that I was going there at a disadvantage and that back to back wins would be very difficult. But this year we’re going there to win. We need to get the first win of the season.”

And with mentor Jeremy McWilliams in attendance, the former Grand prix winner himself says he’s sure that his protégé will be able to find something special come the race.

“We are all anticipating a good home race for John and the team! The support from the British fans has been incredible all year long, and I’m sure that will add something extra to an already incredible atmosphere at Silverstone. Racing at home always gives the rider that extra little boost and we’re all looking forward to the weekend.”
