Moto3: Canet obliterates lap record for pole position

1 of 1

Aron Canet has obliterated the Circuit of the Americas lap record – and his opposition in the process – to back up dominant performances all weekend with pole position for tomorrow’s Moto3 race at the Argentinian Grand Prix.

The Spaniard has been ultra-fast all weekend, but upped his game once again in qualifying to dip a huge 0.7 under Danny Kent’s fastest ever lap of the Texan track and to finish nearly a second ahead of runner-up Joan Mir and 2016 race winner Romano Fenati.

Nicolo Bulega had a strong run to head the second row ahead of Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio, with Enea Bastianini finally finding some pace to head row three from Niccolo Antonelli.

John McPhee was ninth on the British Talent Team Honda, rallying late in the session to jump from 20th to the third row, with Bo Bendsneyder rounding out the top ten.
