While the 2016 season may have only drawn to a close on Sunday, 2017 has already begun as the annual post-Valencia test got underway this morning.

This year’s test is one of the most-anticipated in recent years with a number of big changes to the GP field next year. The biggest of these changes comes in the shape of five-time World Champion Jorge Lorenzo switching from Yamaha, with whom he has spent his entire GP career so far, to Ducati.

At 4pm local time, the shock of the day is that Maverick Vinales leads the timesheets on his new Yamaha steed, followed by team-mate Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez riding the new big-bang Honda.

Andrea Iannone has also shown to be quick on the Suzuki despite a big crash this afternoon. Britain’s Bradley Smith and former Tech 3 Yamaha team mate are making their debuts for KTM, while Sam Lowes is riding the Aprilia RS-GP as a full time MotoGP rider for the first time.
