MotoGP: Lowes continues Aprilia form

1 of 1

Sam Lowes has once again impressed on his second outing on the Aprilia RS-GP machine, after he was able to take to the track alongside his MotoGP rivals for the first time at last week’s Red Bull Ring test, ahead of next season’s debut in the premiere class for the Gresini rider.

Running untimed at the test, Lowes only completed the first day of action as he works to retain his Moto2 form as he continues his quest for a second world championship in that class this year.

However, despite that, he seems to have made the transition easily from 140bhp bike to 250bhp, admitting after the test that he’s now feeling more than at home on the fearsome machine.

“After the first test in Misano, I’m beginning to feel more and more at ease astride the RS-GP. It is a positive trend. I improved every time I went out and we began to work on the bike setup to adapt it to my riding style. We have more tests scheduled with Aprilia, but at the moment I am pleased with the level we have achieved.

“The track is very nice. There are some tight corners and flowing sections. Overall it’s fun. It isn’t very difficult to learn; you just have to remember the right reference points on the blind corners. Let’s just say that, after riding the RS-GP, the straight stretches will seem even longer with the Moto2 bike!”

And, while the Aprilia didn’t appear on official timing over the test, MCN’s sources in the paddock believe that Lowes’ pace was impressively competitive, running only a couple of seconds off the pace of the leading riders.
