Moto3 front-runner Enea Bastianini has broken his wrist in a training accident, falling on Wednesday while riding off-road. The training crash saw him suffer a fracture to his right wrist.

Following assessment by Clinica Mobile boss Doctor Michele Zasa, the 18-year-old Italian underwent surgery yesterday afternoon at Rimini Hospital to have a plate fitted to stabilise the fracture by Doctor Giannicola Lucidi.

The Gresini Racing rider, who currently lies seventh in the title race with a season best result of fifth in Qatar, now faces a struggle for fitness ahead of next weekend’s fifth round of the championship in Le Mans.

The team will make a further assessment of his condition ahead of the French round before deciding whether he is fit enough to ride.
