Pedrosa missed pit signal for four laps

Dani Pedrosa’s chances of podium finish at Misano ended midrace when the Spaniard missed a pit signal on his pitboard for four consecutive laps. The Repsol Honda rider had been running in the top four in the early stages of the race but with confusion reigning at Misano Pedrosa was caught out badly by the timing of his two stops.

When asked about the difficulties of the race Pedrosa said that while he missed his signals on his pitboard from his team the problem was excacerbated by the track conditions. With the new surface so dark it was hard to see a dry line developing and as a result it was hard to truly understand the conditions.

“I couldn’t really see it was getting dryer,” said Pedrosa. “The tarmac didn’t really tell you if it was dry or wet. The second reason is I missed my pit board four laps in a row, they showed me “box” four times, and I missed it. I was behind another rider and he didn’t stop, and also Rossi didn’t stop, because I could see him on the TVs in one or two corners. Sure, I can now check the lap times and I lost about ten seconds per lap. So for four laps is 40 seconds, and that’s where I lost the podium.”

Pedrosa ultimately finished ninth, 39s adrift of his teammate and race winner, Marc Marquez.
