Marquez wins, Smith and Redding on the podium

1 of 1

Misano produced a thrilling race with Marc Marquez taking the win ahead of Bradley Smith and Scott Redding. Spits of rain as the race started provided riders with challenging conditions but an early switch to wet tyres brought the race alive.

The race was dominated by Jorge Lorenzo, Marquez and Valentino Rossi but it was only Marquez that stood on the rostrum after the Yamaha riders stayed out too long on wet tyres when the majority of the field made their second pitstop to change bikes. With slick tyres Lorenzo crashed almost immediately and left himself facing a huge uphill task in the championship.

Rossi stayed out too late and fell back to fifth but the points gained will be crucial for the title. The Yamaha riders were focused only on each other and it left Marquez free to come through and claim the win.

Smith started and finished on the same pair of slicks and was rewarded with his second premier class podium ahead of Redding who claimed his first. It was a hugely mature ride from both racers and just rewards for their efforts. Loris Baz finished fourth with the Frenchman gambling on making the switch to slicks before everyone else and cutting through the field with ease.
