Marquez takes pole despite crash

1 of 1

A last minute crash wasn’t enough to derail Marc Marquez in qualifying at Aragon with the world champion taking pole position ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and a hugely impressive Andrea Iannone. The Italian, riding after dislocating his shoulder last week, set his time at the end of the session to take his first front row start since Mugello.

Pol Espargaro was fourth fastest with the Spaniard finding a terrific lap in Q2 to vault the midfield pack. Valentino Rossi continues to struggle in qualifying with the Italian sixth fastest. Cal Crutchlow was eighth fastest with Bradley Smith tenth,

Scott Redding missed out on Q2 and will start 14th on the grid with Eugene Laverty impressively claiming top Open class honours in 15th.
