First career win for Bastianini, Kent sixth

Misano could be a pivotal race in the Moto3 world championship with Danny Kent struggling to a sixth place finish and his chief title rival, Enea Bastianini, winning the race. It was the Italian’s first Grand Prix win and couldn’t have come at a better time after a difficult race from Kent.

The Englishman was given a rider penalty at two thirds distance for exceeding the track limits and that left him out of touch of the leading group in the final stages of the race. As a result salvaging sixth was the best that he could have hoped for on a day of damage limitation with Bastianini claiming 25 points.

The closing stages of the race saw Oliviera, Bastianini and Antonelli open a gap to Fenati and Binder as they fought it out for the win. The race started in a hectic fashion with a leading group of seven riders trading places with a series of brave moves that left the home crowd breathless. As the race progressed the lead group thinned out but the racing remained as fast and furious as at the start of the race.

On the final lap the infighting with the group of leading riders brought Fenati and Binder back into the fight but ultimately both were unable to get on to the rostrum.

Kent’s title lead now stands at 55 points.
