Special win for Marquez at Phillip Island

After Sunday’s stunning last lap victory at Phillip Island Marc Marquez said that it was a win that wa made even more special by it marking his 50th Grand Prix victory.

His last lap recovery was one of the greatest laps in MotoGP history. Having overcome a one second gap to Jorge Lorenzo on that final lap Marquez rode on the limit to take the win having dived down the inside of Lorenzo with only two corners remaining of the 27 lap race.

“I didn’t believe to arrive to Jorge. But this last lap I pushed 100%, and in the end a great victory for me, for my team, for Honda. And especially for everybody. Because after a difficult season, always is great to be on the top. It was like a qualifying practice lap.”

When asked about his 50th victory Marquez said:

“50 victories are a lot. For me, every victory is really special, but to get the 50 victories with this kind of race is even more special. I will try to grow my level and win more times, but especially to fight for the title many times.”
