Lorenzo fastest and confident after day 1

Jorge Lorenzo was pleased to get back on his bike and focus on racing. The Spaniard was fastest on the opening day of the Valencia weekend. Lorenzo, who trails Valentino Rossi by seven points in the championship, looked confident on the bike and totally at ease with his Yamaha YZR-M1.

“Today was a good day from the morning to the afternoon and we were competitive with the bike,” said Lorenzo. “We started with a good setting made some modifications with the bike and we found that it was better. I also tried the harder tyre and it was worse than the other tyre so it was good work today for the race. We did a 33.1 and knowing that the bike isn’t perfect this is a good beginning.”

Having seen lots of negative reaction from fans in Sepang Lorenzo was once again forced to listen to jeers at Valencia. When asked if it made it more difficult for him at the track when he has to deal with this distraction Lorenzo made it clear that for him the focus is on Sunday and this was water off a ducks back.

“It wouldn’t be good for me if everybody at the track was making the same noises but if it’s only fans that have a different t-shirt or that follow my rivals I don’t worry about it. I’ll do my best job on the track and try and have the best result possible. I don’t feel bad when I hear these things.”
