First pole for Quartararo, Kent second fastest at Jerez

Fabio Quartararo claimed the first pole position of his Grand Prix career at Jerez with the reigning CEV champion showing incredible speed throughout his first weekend at a circuit that he has raced at in the past. Quartararo battled with Danny Kent throughout the qualifying session with the duo trading times throughout before the Frenchman held sway with a late lap time.

Kent, who has won the last two Moto3 races, was badly baulked on his final lap while on pace to take pole position but the Englishman showed again that he’ll be a favourite during tomorrow’s race. With Miguel Oliviera, Brad Binder and Karel Hanika, despite a huge crash at the end of the session, inside the top six it was a solid day for Ajo and showed that the KTM has the speed to compete during tomorrow’s race.

John McPhee qualified in 25th position.
