CoW Public Inquiry opens today

The Public Inquiry that will decide the fate of the Circuit of Wales opens today with the hearing expected to last up to eight days. The Inquiry offers all interested parties the chance to air their opinions on the planned circuit and the development.

For Chris Herring, the Circuit’s Director, the Inquiry offers a chance for the support that the project has generated within the local community to be put on record and the potential benefits of  track to be discussed in public.

With the circuit having been granted planning permission last year this is the final step before construction can begin and when asked by MCN about the delays Herring said:

“The delay is just a local issue but we have a lot of local support because they’re desperate on this to happen. My recommendation is to have visit the area to see it, they live in poverty and have food parcels delivered every week.”

The support from the locals has been matched by support from Dorna should the project go ahead with Herring continuing:

“It’s going to take more than this project to change this area but this will the start of that improvement and that’s what appeals to Dorna; to show that motorsport can have a massive influence in changing an area and the manner in which people live. They fully understand it and knowing that our sport can make such a big difference is huge to Dorna. That’s what keeps a lot of us going because we feel obliged to the local community to see this through. The tide will turn when we start to do some work.”

Once the hearing is completed a file will be prepared for the Welsh Assembly and a final decision expected to be made within two months.
