Johann Zarco has enjoyed a superb first half of 2015 and the Frenchman has put himself into a great position to win a first world title having won three races so far. With nine races remaining the Ajo rider in firmly ensconced as the favourite in Moto2 and speaking during the break he spoke about the season thus far.

“I can’t say I’m surprised [by my season] but I’m happy because we’ve reached the summer break with a 65-point advantage, and that’s incredible,” said Zarco. “Moreover, in the last race I had some luck and Tito Rabat fell on the last lap. Now it’s time to enjoy ourselves without thinking that all our work has been done, because it has not. There’s a long way to go and anything can happen.

“I am very happy with the performance of the bike. I have a good feeling and the team have improved a lot. They have given me a good bike, they help me to always be fighting for wins, and that’s very important when you want to compete for the world title. I would like to maintain this level in the second half of the season. I’m ready to continue adding victories and good results.”

Having struggled at times in Moto2 since moving into the class in 2012 Zarco returned to Ajo for this year and the move has rejuvenated him. Just like when he rode for the Finnish squad in 125’s he now start every weekend with an air of confidence. This has meant that he has been able to improve his fortunes at most tracks this year including some that he has struggled with in the past.

The experience of the team, and his maturity, are the key reasons for this improvement:

“I always use my experience and they give me the pleasure of riding a motorcycle with which I feel very secure and able to push. Last year I learned a lot and this year I’m enjoying things. That’s fantastic. My team manager Aki Ajo knows many things about the championship and is always there to give me good advice. I have a lot of contact with him and always try to listen to his advice. I have very good relationship with the team and I feel that help me a lot. For this reason, I always insist on highlighting the important role they have.”
