Scottish teen Rory Skinner selected for Red Bull Rookies

Thirteen year old Aprilia Superteen champion Rory Skinner has been successfully selected for the 2015 Red Bull Rookies, and will join Bradley Ray in the Moto3 feeder series for next season.

The Scottish teenager stormed to the Aprilia Superteen championship earlier in the year, a highly competitive one make series that has spawned talent like Chaz Davies and Casey Stoner, before the selection event this week at Spain’s Guadix circuit.

He will now join the eight-round series as it follows MotoGP across Europe, after emerging as one of 12 riders out of the 109 invited to Spain and of over 1000 initially shortlisted.

Skinner, who is mentored by former World Champion Neil Hodgson, said afterwards: “The last three days has been really tough but I’ve enjoyed it and have learnt a lot, and I’m really looking forward to competing next year. It was nerve-wracking as there was so much at stake, but I kept calm and did what I had to do. It’s been an incredible year for me and I’m really happy with everything that I’ve achieved. It was an amazing feeling to win the Dunlop Aprilia British Superteen Challenge Championship at Donington Park on my 13th birthday; but being selected for the Red Bull Rookies is definitely the icing on the cake!”
