Jerez Moto2: Kallio controls for pole

1 of 2

Mika Kallio has controlled the Moto2 qualifying session at Jerez to take his first pole position this year on the MarcVDS Kalex, finishing the session nearly 0.3 ahead of Sandro Cortese.

Kallio said after the session: “I can be a little bit smiling after that but still no points from it, so we need to work tomorrow. But being on the front row gives confidence, and I had good confidence today to push for the fast lap. But we need points in the pocket so I will have to push hard tomorrow too.”

Luis Salom completed a Kalex front row, another 0.1 behind Cortese, while Thomas Luthi managed to improve on his terrible result in Argentina last time out to lead the second row from Dominique Aegerter and Kallio’s teammate Tito Rabat.

Sam Lowes was fifteenth after a crash during the session, as he struggles to find the qualifying form that saw him on fifth for the first round in Qatar. Fellow Brit Gino Rea was back in 27th.
