Alex de Angelis replaces Colin Edwards at Forward Yamaha

The stellar career of double World Superbike champion Colin Edwards could have ended with a low key 13th position in yesterday’s Indianapolis MotoGP round.
Confusion over the popular Texan’s future was finally clarified this morning when the Forward Racing squad confirmed that Alex de Angelis will replace Edwards for the final eight races of 2014.
It was clear from the early part of the Indy weekend that Edwards was not going to see out all of the final part of his last season following his announcement in Austin back in April that 2014 will be his last in world championship racing.
The 40-year-old though had planned to make a farewell appearance at Silverstone to thank his army of British fans before bowing out with one last race at Valencia in November.
It appears that a British GP appearance on track at least is in some doubt, though Edwards will fly to the UK regardless to be present at Silverstone.
What is not in doubt is that ex-Forward Racing Moto2 rider de Angelis will take the place of Edwards, starting from this weekend’s Brno round in the Czech Republic.
San Marino rider de Angelis told MCN: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to be back in MotoGP and I am really happy. We can see the Forward Yamaha is competitive with Aleix (Espargaro) and this is a really good chance for me to impress the team and try and earn the ride on a permanent basis in 2015.”
Forward Racing boss Giovanni Cuzari has not yet confirmed a second rider for 2015, with German Stefan Bradl already signed to replace Espargaro, who is heading to Suzuki with Maverick Vinales.
