San Marino Moto2: Espargaro closes championship gap with win

Pol Espargaro took the win at Misano today to close the gap to championship leader Scott Redding to 23 points.

Redding, who qualified on the second row, was never quite in touch with the front group and had to battle hard to finish in sixth place and take 10 points.

Espargaro got a great start to open up a slight gap on the first lap, but he was unable to hold off Japanese rider Takaaki Nakagami who took the lead and quickly opened up a gap of over two seconds.

The Italtrans rider was unable to take his maiden Moto2 win, as his pace slowed towards the end of the race allowing Espargaro to take his fourth win of the season and keep the pressure on Redding.

Espargaro’s team-mate Esteve Rabat completes the podium in third place.
