Strong 2014 Moto2 entry list unveiled

British star Scott Redding and new world champion Pol Espargaro may have quit Moto2 to move to MotoGP, but the 2014 Honda-powered 600cc category entry list is still packed full of quality talent.

Taking Redding’s place in the Marc VDS Racing squad is Tito Rabat, who left the Tuenti HP 40 Pons squad to join forces with experienced Finn Mika Kallio.

Rabat and Espargaro’s departure will see Spanish team boss Sito Pons run reigning Moto3 world champion Maverick Vinales and Luis Salom on a Kalex frame next season.

Redding might have moved into MotoGP after finishing runner-up in Moto2 in 2013, but British interest will remain significant with the arrival of current World Supersport champion Sam Lowes.

Lowes will race a Speed Up frame with young Italian rookie Alessandro Nocco, while Gino Rea also features on the provisional entry list and is down to race a British-built FTR chassis in the AGT-Rea Racing squad.

Rea was without a permament ride in 2013 but a series of self-funded wild cards appear to have paid off.

There is also confirmation of the new high profile Caterham project, which MCN first revealed back in mid-September.

The British-based squad will run Johann Zarco and AMA Superbike champion Josh Herrin on a Suter frame.

The list also confirms Takaaki Nakagami’s late switch to a Kalex chassis in the Idemitsu Honda Team Asia that is run by former Repsol Honda rider and 500cc winner Tadayuki Okada.

Nakagami’s departure means the Italtrans squad has yet to confirm his replacement to partner former 125GP world champion Julian Simon.
