Mugello MotoGP: Lorenzo eases to victory

Reigning champion Jorge Lornzo eased to victory in Mugello today to record his second win in a row.

Pole sitter Dani Pedrosa got off to a good start, but a hard move from Lorenzo at the first corner sat him up and Lorenzo then led to the flag.

Marquez got a good start to settle in to third place behind his team-mate Pedrosa and with five laps to go Marquez moved in to second position.

Marquez was pulling away from Pedrosa when he crashed with just three laps to go and was unable to continue.

The crash promoted Pedrosa to second position and Brit Cal Crutchlow to third.

Crutchlow had a lonely race after passing Dovizioso on the second lap but towards the end was catching Pedrosa rapidly. It’s Crutchlow’s second podium in a row after his second place at Le Mans last time out.

It was not a fairy tale return for Yamaha and Valentino Rossi after a collision with Alvaro Bautista on lap one sent both riders tumbling into the gravel.

After a hard crash during Friday practice Bradley Smith rode well to finish ninth. Paul Bird Motorsport rider Michael Laverty finished 17th.
