Gino Rea aiming for consistent points challenge in 2014

Gino Rea is hoping he can establish himself as a consistent points scoring finisher in 2014 after securing a full-time return to the Moto2 world championship last month.

Rea will ride for the new American-based AGT-Rea outfit next season after he raced throughout 2013 without a permanent ride.

Rea self-financed several wild card appearances in 2013 to try and secure himself a return to Moto2 full-time and his hard work and dedication has paid off, with American Green Technology supporting a new Texas-based project.

Londoner Rea, who scored one rostrum in a rain-hit Sepang race at the end of 2012 in his only previous full-time Moto2 challenge, is now hoping he can become a regular inside the top 15.

Rea, who twice finished 14th in Australia and Japan at the end of last season, told MCN: “The initial goal is to be a consistent points scorer. Obviously I want to be higher up and fighting for podiums but I have lot a lot of work to do with starting a new team and putting the organisation in place. I finished off last season inside the points and I showed what I am capable of being, so I want to be regularly inside the top 15 next year.”
