Marquez on record pace in Moto2

Marc Marquez blitzed the Valencia Moto2 lap record to finish day one on top of the time sheets, at the end of the opening two free practice sessions.

Pol Espargaro put in a flying lap to take the top spot and the lap record earlier in the session, but a last second charge from Marquez saw him almost four tenths faster than Espargaro at the flag.

The third spot was taken by Brit Scott Redding on his Marc VDS bike, who was only two tenths behind the two Spaniards.

The track, which had been damp for an earlier session topped by Xavier Simeon, was dry by the time the Moto2 riders got their second run of the day.

However, the session wasn’t without incident, with Marquez having to pay a trip to Simone Corsi’s pit box to apologise after a heavy pass saw Corsi go down.
